Welcome to the Summit Metal Supply Roof Calculator. This tool provides professional estimates for metal roofing panels and trims. For accuracy, please follow the measurement guidelines below.
Section Setup
Each roof plane should be entered as a separate section (A, B, C, etc.).
- Section Names: Click on the section letter (e.g., "A") to edit the name for better clarity (e.g., "Front Porch").
- Profile: Choose your panel style. Tuff/Diamond uses 36" coverage; Mechanical uses 15.75".
- Pitch: Vertical rise over a 12" run.
- Angle Type:
- Right / Left Angle: One side square, one side angled.
- Both / Centered: A standard centered gable.
Primary Measurements (Inches)
- Ridge: Measurement across the very top.
- Eave: Measurement across the bottom gutter line.
- Length: You can input this directly, OR calculate it from the run using the slope.
- Slope: Vertical rise over 12" run (e.g., 6/12 for a 6:12 pitch).
- Fold / Overhang: Fold for Standing Seam; Overhang for Tuff/Diamond Rib.
Length Input Options
Choose one of two methods:
- Direct Length Input: If you know the slope length (on the roof plane) from ridge to eave, enter it directly in the Length field. This is the actual panel length needed.
- Calculate from Run: If you have a 2D plan or know the horizontal distance:
- Enter the horizontal run (flat distance from eave to ridge).
- The calculator will compute: slope length = run × √(1 + (pitch/12)²)
Wall Flashing & Specialized Trims
Toggle "Wall" checkboxes if an edge meets a vertical wall.
- Top wall: Swaps Ridge Cap for End-Wall Flashing.
- Side wall: Swaps Gable/Valley for Side-Wall Flashing.
Dormer Entry
Toggle "Dormer" and measure from the far-left edge of that specific section.
- Standard Dormer: Triangle shape with valley flashing on angled sides.
- Shed Dormer / Roof Cutout / Chimney: Rectangle shape with side wall flashing on vertical sides.
- Left to Dormer: Distance from left edge to dormer start.
- Width: Full span of dormer base.
- Eave to Dormer: Run from eave up to dormer bottom.
- Ridge to Dormer: Run from ridge down to dormer top.
